Yard Waste Pickup Instruction sheet
The FCA has arranged for a curb-side yard waste pick-up service. The Regional District of Nanaimo’s household garbage pick-up does not include yard waste and therefore homeowners can only legally dispose of their yard waste by taking it to a disposal site and paying a disposal fee. For smaller quantities this can be expensive. This service is therefore a low cost alternative and has the added benefit of eliminating yard waste that ends up on vacant lots or golf course property. Let’s keep Fairwinds as beautiful as it can be.
Pick-up tags can be purchased from Fairwinds Center. Yard waste is to be placed in clear gargabe bags and affix a tag to bag. Place curbside the night before as pickup is first thing Monday mornings (between 6am and 7am).
Anne Murphy with her eagle Eddie & dog Murphy are always working hard as our geese police team to encourage the Canada Geese to move off of Fairwinds. See Anne's website for information on the program and her accomplishments at http://geesecontrol.org/. The eagle is a predator and just having him flying low over the fairways is enough to make the geese fly away.
Anne and her team will be working on course maintenance regularly at various times/days of the week so there is no established pattern for the geese to adapt to throughout the seasons.
If you happen to see Anne and her birds working please keep out of her way and give her the space to work her bird.
An important part of Anne's program is to give her the right of way on the golf course.
NZEV (Net Zero Emission Vehicle) vs Golf Carts
In order to enhance public safety on the roadways in and around the Fairwinds community, the RCMP are reminding anyone who utilizes a street legal golf cart must ensure that they have the required insurance to allow the carts to cross a roadway in order to access all parts of the golf course. Carts must remain on pathways unless they are a designated electric vehicle safe for road use.
An operation permit can be obtained from the RCMP Detachment. A person may then take the permit to an insurance agent who will issue documentation which will allow the carts to be used in such a fashion.
Fairwinds now designated as Net Zero Emmission Vehicle (NZEV) Zone
Visibility of House Numbers
When emergency vehicles, police, fire or ambulance are called to your home in a time of need, it is critical that the street address you have given them is easily visible and recognizable at the entrance to your property.
Consider new house numbers for the gate, fence or house that are reflective.
Don't wait for an emergency to happen; when seconds count you want help to be able to find you as quickly as possible.
Can you easily find your street number, if you can't, it is time to change them.
